Low-spin golf balls not only produce less backspin with a driver, but they will also have lower side spin, making sliced or hooked shots a bit less pronounced.
I’ve been doing a lot of research on golf balls over the last couple of years. Testing them in my home simulator and out on the golf course. I’ve hit tens of thousands of balls in the simulator, pouring through the data on spin, distance, trajectory, ball speed etc.

Low spin balls can get you a little extra distance off the tee, let’s start with one of the newest golf balls on the market, one that I found to be extremely low spin and certainly traveled much further.
Bridgestone e9
This golf ball was specifically built with long drive in mind. It is a low spin ball and I have found it to be extremely low spin off the tees. I was also consistently getting an extra 5 – 10 yards of distance with this golf ball!
This golf ball was just released in March 2023 and was co-developed between Bridgestone golf and the World Long Drive Association. Due to the collaborative effort, this is the official ball of World Long Drive.

Designed to be a low spin golf ball with maximum distance off the tee, this ball features a 330 dimple cover. It is a 2-piece golf ball, rated as Low Spin with both driver and short irons by the USGA. The e9 is also found on the USGA compliant golf ball list(1), so it is absolutely legal by USGA standards.
The e9 is currently only available in white, but I suspect orange, yellow, and pink options will be available in the near future.

The Tour Response golf ball was built for players looking for extra speed and distance off the tee! I have personally used this ball quite a bit, I won a dozen at a scramble and they felt great!
They are low-spin golf balls off the tee and have a very nice soft feel to them. They are 3-piece golf balls, so unlike some of the other balls on this list, you won’t lose much when it comes to greenside spin.

This golf ball was built for speed and offers exceptional distance for players of any swing speed.
I have personally used this ball quite a bit and usually keep a few in my bag for when I’m trying to get a little extra distance off the tee. I have also recommended this ball to a couple of my “Senior” friends and they immediately saw an extra 10 yards of distance off the tee.

This golf ball was built for longer distance with very low long game spin.
The AVX performs really well for slow swing players, but will not get you as much distance if you are closer to a mid or higher swing speed. It has a soft feel and offers good greenside spin.

Things to Consider With Low-Spin Golf Balls
Generally, golf ball manufacturers try to ensure every golf ball they make is low spin off the tee. But, unless you are buying premium golf balls, you’ll sacrifice some greenside spin.
Most golfers won’t mind losing some of that spin around the greens. If that’s you, consider the Tour Speed or the Bridgestone e9. The e9 is a firm ball, while the Tour Speed is much softer.
If you don’t care about price and you are looking to absolutely maximize distance, the ProV1x Left Dash is crazy long!

There are several factors that determine how far a golf ball will travel. These include swing speed, launch angle, trajectory, and spin. Compared to a high-spin golf ball, Lower-spin golf balls will travel further as they create less drag in the air.
You can certainly optimize spin by addressing your driver loft and/or improving your angle of attack, but the way a golf ball is made will be a major factor.
Since lower spin balls have less backspin, they also produce less side spin. When a golfer puts sidespin on a ball, it causes the ball to fade/draw or slice/hook…depending on how much spin and the overall ball flight. A low spin golf ball can prevent some of those nasty hooks/slices.
It’s not going to magically fix your game, but it can certainly minimize the severity of a mishit.
Drawbacks of Low Spin Golf Balls

Soft golf balls spin more around the greens due to their softer cover. Although that is generally true, many low spin golf balls, even soft golf balls, will not produce as much greenside spin. If you want the best of both worlds, going with a premium golf ball is about your only option.
Just as one of the benefits of a low spin ball is improved accuracy due to limited side spin, it also makes it harder to shape your shot with a lower spinning ball. If you are one who likes to fade/draw your ball, you really need to get closer to a premium golf ball to take full advantage of it.
Final Thoughts
Low spin golf balls can give you added distance and improved accuracy. But they often come with reduced greenside control and are difficult to shape. Choosing the right ball for your individual golf game is critical.
